Centenary celebrates Constitution Day September 21

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary political science professor Dr. Mark Leeper will deliver the College’s annual Constitution Day lecture on Thursday, September 21 at 11:10 a.m. in the Student Union Building. Leeper’s talk on “The Constitution: Sexual Privacy and Same Sex Marriage” is free and open to the public.

“Much uncertainty has been generated by the advent of the Trump administration and its potential impact on constitutional freedoms,” says Leeper. “My lecture will review the major cases regarding sexual privacy and same sex marriage and speculate about the potential impact of another Trump appointee on these freedoms.”

Leeper joined the Centenary faculty in 2016 and has published and presented numerous papers on constitutional liberties. He teaches courses in constitutional law, American government, politics and culture in American film, rights and liberties, and issues in U.S. public policy. Leeper earned his doctorate in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Constitution Day commemorates the ratification of the United States Constitution in September 1787 and is celebrated across the country with local events focusing on constitutional history and citizenship.
