Wildlife photographer Ronnie Maum to exhibit at Centenary's Magale Library

SHREVEPORT, LA — Haughton-based wildlife photographer Ronnie Maum will exhibit photographs from his book A Southeast Alaska Adventure at Centenary’s Magale Library during October 2017. A reception with the photographer will be held on Tuesday, October 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Maum is a Louisiana native who has lived in Haughton for the past 30 years. Building on a lifelong love of the outdoors, he purchased his first camera in the early 1980s and began experimenting with nature photography. Maum’s style has evolved along with advances in digital photography and he now spends many weekend hours exploring the environment and wildlife of northwest Louisiana, especially birds in flight, mammals, and dragonflies and damselflies.

Maum got involved with the Red River Wildlife Refuge and its support organization, Friends of the Red River Wildlife Refuge, about ten years ago. Many of his images documenting the flora and fauna at the refuge have been used in visitor center displays as well as other media for the Refuge and the Friends group. Maum’s images have also been published in Birders Guide to Louisiana; Ducks, Geese, and Swans of North America; and The 532 Birds of Korea.

The photographs included in the “A Southeast Alaska Adventure” exhibit and the book of the same name document Maum’s journey in Alaska in May 2017. Maum has also self-published other nature photography-themed books, including a book about the Red River National Wildlife Refuge, a journey up the Red River on a houseboat, and several children’s books.
