Andrew Powers received his Music Education degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2006, and has been a professional music educator ever since. At Southeastern, his instrument concentration was in Jazz and classical guitar; he has taught guitar in public schools for four years and privately for fifteen years. He also served as Band Director for the last seven years at both the middle school and high school levels. He serves on the board of the Shreveport Summer Music Festival (SSMF) as an educational consultant, and as a teacher at the SSMF Jazz Camp for middle and high school students.
As a member of the Northshore Jazz Ensemble, Mr. Powers has performed throughout the New Orleans area in a variety of ensemble settings ranging from quartets to Big Bands. Since moving to Shreveport, he has been a member of the SSMF’s Faculty Ensemble, and a soloist at restaurants and other private events, such as the Highland Blessings Dinner and the “Wine, Art, and Music” event for the Bossier Arts Council. He has recently been seen in performance in a duo setting with vocalist Michael Shotten at “Meet the Orchestra Night” in support of the Marshall Symphony Orchestra. He accompanies the Broadmoor United Methodist Church Chancel Choir as a soloist, and maintains a private music studio for guitar students of all experience levels and ages.
