Mr. Brown has been an adjunct faculty member of the Hurley School of Music since 2005. He teaches guitar to Centenary students while also maintaining his private studio roster. Mr. Brown is lead instrumental music teacher for the Talented Arts Program (TAP) in the Caddo Parish School System. His duties include providing enrichment classes for diverse K-12 music students throughout the district. He has a working knowledge of most musical instruments in common use.
Prior to coming to Centenary, Mr. Brown earned a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Broadcasting from Stanford University (1979). His early career was spent in various positions in film, graphic arts, journalism, and cable television. During this period he continued guitar studies while performing and arranging music for jazz ensembles in the San Francisco Bay Area. After a stint in the United States Army he returned to school and received a Master’s Degree in Guitar Performance and Instrumental Pedagogy from San Jose State University (CA 1992).
In 1997 Mr. Brown moved to Europe where he spent time primarily in the Netherlands and Germany. There he appeared in concerts as a soloist and ensemble player on acoustic and electric guitar. In 2003 he returned home to Shreveport and earned the K-12 Instrumental Music Certification from Centenary College in 2005.
