General Policies
The Office of Career Services has developed the following policies to ensure that Centenary College of Louisiana students and alumni are treated fairly and are being recruited for viable positions. Employers and organizations recruiting are expected to abide by and adhere to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the United States Department of Labor, Fair Labor Standards Act.
Internships
It is the responsibility of each employer to determine whether an internship should be paid or unpaid. Each employer's human resources department can best determine eligibility based on the organization's specific internship opportunity. For more information please reference the Fair Labor Standards Act, Fact Sheet #71 (seven factors used to evaluate whether a worker is a trainee or an employee for wage consideration) and the NACE Position Statement: U.S. Internships.
Babysitting or Other In-Home Employment
We do not post babysitting jobs or other positions where an employee will work out of someone else's dwelling (house, apartment, condo, etc).
Unpaid/Volunteer Work
Our office does not post (or provide résumé referrals) for unpaid internships or employment. The only exceptions are bona fide charitable organizations seeking clearly labeled part-time volunteers and the Peace Corps.

Employers /individuals offering employment /entrepreneurial opportunities based on a "pyramid" or "multi-level" type networking structure requiring or encouraging the recruitment of others who recruit others and so on to sell products and services will not be permitted to recruit on campus or attend career fairs.
Third Party Recruiters
Definitions of Third Party and Temporary Employment Agencies:

Agencies wishing to list a position with Centenary College of Louisiana must adhere to the following:
For job postings, provide the name of the client you are representing in the job description.
State in the job description that any fees assessed by the agency will be paid by the client organization or employer you represent. Centenary College of Louisiana will not post any opportunities that require students to pay fees.
Agree that you or your client may not forward Centenary College of Louisiana students' résumés to any other party without the student/applicant's written consent. Failure to comply with this is a violation of The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
Third party recruiters, whether recruiting for internal or third party organizations, may not participate in career fairs or on campus visits.
THE OFFICE OF CAREER SERVICES RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DENY RECRUITING PRIVILEGES TO ANY ORGANIZATION.
Fraudulent Job Opportunities
While Career Services makes every effort to prevent fraudulent job postings, it is not immune to occasional scams. You may encounter fraudulent job opportunities when searching for jobs on the Career Services website and/or the bulletin boards; you may also receive fraudulent email that has been forged to make it appear as if it came from a reputable company. Use common sense, if it looks fraudulent, do not reply and report it to career services immediately.
PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION and AVOID SCAMS:
- Never provide any social security, credit card or bank account numbers to prospective employers over the phone or electronically.
- Refuse background/credit checks until you have met the employer in person.
- Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union) - anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer.
- Beware of fake cashier's checks & money orders - banks will hold you responsible.
