The John F. Magale Library offers a wide range of resources for students, alumni and community members. Magale Library is committed to offering excellent service while adhering to Centenary College’s overall mission. While promoting the high standards and principles of Centenary, Magale strives to remain the center of information and research for all its students and faculty.
With computers for student use, high-speed Internet access, wireless network (current students only), study rooms, digital scanning, and free printing for assignments, the Magale Library serves as a center for students studying, printing, and doing research. In addition to individual PCs, the library features an extensive collection of books/monographs and academic journals (print & electronic), as well as archived rare books and manuscripts relating to the history of Centenary College of Louisiana, the United Methodist Church in Louisiana, the state of Louisiana, and the city of Shreveport. Magale Library is also part of the LOUIS consortium giving Centenary students access to a wide variety of resources.
Since the physical structure's final completion in 1963, Magale's resource collection has grown and evolved substantially. The collection currently includes nearly 432,654 volumes, over 352,859 full-text serials, 362,424 newspapers and microforms, 964,958 audio/video materials, 142,670 monograph records, and 175,235 eBooks. In addition to this, Magale offers access to 53 million eResources for research. Magale Library holds license agreements for some of the most authoritative and reputable research databases for currently enrolled students. Magale also maintains lists of freely accessible, quality online resources in our numerous subject guides.
