Centenary announces auditions for spring music and theatre show
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College of Louisiana announces open audition dates for Prince Orlovsky’s Ball, a collaborative effort between the College’s theatre and music departments. The April 12-15, 2018 production at Centenary’s Marjorie Lyons Playhouse will be a lively pastiche of opera and music theatre, based on the second act of Johann Strauss’s operetta, “Die Fledermaus.”
With an original script by Centenary Artist-in-Residence Cindy Sadler, Prince Orlovsky’s Ball premiered at Spotlight on Opera in San Marcos, Texas in July 2017. The Centenary production will feature a new script tailored to suit the Shreveport cast. The show will include actors, singers, and dancers and may include a variety of other types of acts, depending on the audition pool.
"Prince Orlovsky's Ball provides the perfect setting to showcase the talent of Centenary student artists in many different disciplines and genres,” says Sadler. “I developed the show as a fun way to give students at all levels of development a chance to perform a piece that they could have a great success with, and still be part of a larger production rather than a one-off scene as is so often done. Prince Orlovksy’s Ball was incredibly well-received at its premiere last summer in San Marcos, TX, and I look forward to rewriting it especially for Centenary's young artists."
Auditions will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10 in the Anderson Auditorium of Centenary College’s Hurley School of Music. Rehearsals will begin in January 2018 for the show dates in April.
