Centenary music honorary presents annual "Lagniappe" performance April 10

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary’s Eta Lambda chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) international music fraternity will hold its annual “Lagniappe” performance on Monday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium at the College’s Hurley School of Music. The event is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted at a post-performance reception held in the Anderson Auditorium lobby. All donations will benefit SAI Philanthropies, Inc., the national organization’s charitable arm.
True to its name, the “Lagniappe” event provides the audience with “a little something extra” with performances by Centenary students, faculty, and alumni who are not necessarily always found on the Hurley stage. This year’s performance features accordion, percussion, piano, a French horn and flute duet, a brass trio, and several vocal pieces.
Sigma Alpha Iota is an international music fraternity founded in 1903 at the University School of Music in Ann Arbor, Michigan. SAI chapters are dedicated to encouraging, nurturing, and supporting women musicians through educational and performance programs. SAI Philanthropies, Inc., supports music education in a variety of ways, from scholarships and grants available to SAI members to projects which provide material assistance to schools in developing countries, such as the People-to-People Project.
A portion of the money collected at “Lagniappe” this year will be specifically designated for Pan’s Cottage at the MacDowell Colony, an artists’ retreat in New Hampshire that has hosted thousands of composers, writers, and visual artists since its creation in the early 20th century. SAI funded the original construction of the cottage and donated it to the Colony in 1918. This year, the SAI national office has set a goal of raising $100,000 for restorations at Pan’s Cottage.
Centenary’s Eta Lambda chapter of SAI was founded in 1987 by Judy Zachary Price and is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2017. The “Lagniappe” show featuring Centenary students, staff, and faculty has been an Eta Lambda tradition since 1992.
