Meadows Museum opens for special arts events in July
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary’s Meadows Museum of Art is officially taking its summer break along with students at the College, but the museum will open for a pair of special events this month. A family-friendly open house and a stop-motion animation workshop for 4th through 8th grade students present unique options for beating the heat and enjoying the Meadows this summer.
All ages are invited to the free open house from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, to explore the Furthur exhibition with art by Joshua Chambers, Thom Johnson, and Paige Powell. Young patrons can also enjoy mini-sessions with Little You Yoga and shaved ice from the Shiver Shack until 1:30 p.m.
At the workshop on Tuesday, July 24, 4th through 8th grade students will arrive at 9:00 a.m. to learn about stop-motion animation and how it is made, followed by a chance to create their own stop-motion cartoons. The program also includes a mid-morning break with healthy snacks and mindful movement with Little You Yoga. At noon, parents are invited back to the museum for a screening of the students’ cartoons with popcorn and lemonade provided.
The cost of the workshop is $50 per student or $80 when two students sign up at once. Due to scheduling and workspace limitations, attendance is capped at 50 students. To register, visit centenary.edu/animation.
