Mission Opportunities for Students

We believe that differences among people diminish when they are employed in side-by-side work for a cause greater than themselves. To provide opportunities for this kind of learning, Religious Life and the Office of Intercultural Engagement sponsor local and short-term mission opportunities for students, alumni, and friends of the College. Annual mission opportunities are grounded in biblical study, integrated with theological discussion and reflection, and open to Centenary students and adults.

Past Mission Experiences

 Alternative Spring Break 2013
Students participating in the Alternative Spring Break Mission in March 2013 decided to stay local and work with the Fuller Center for Housing of NW Louisiana on the Blitz Build for Veterans. Faculty, staff, and students dedicated four days of their spring break to building homes for veterans in a neighborhood less than a mile from campus.

October 2012
Eighteen Centenary students, faculty, and alumni traveled to Slidell, LA to help residents recover from damages caused by Hurricane Isaac.

"WillieBuild" May 2010
On May 11, 2010, twenty-one Centenary students, staff, and alumni traveled to Dallas, TX to participate in a two-day mission for WillieBuild. The group helped build a Habitat for Humanity house in memory of Willie Tichenor, younger brother of Centenary alumnus Taylor Tichenor '09. Students put their love of neighbor into action as they installed windows, doors, siding, and shingles.
